Orbitworks Successfully Deploys Altair-1 from Abu Dhabi

UAE-based Orbitworks has successfully deployed Altair-1, the country’s first commercial satellite, marking a significant development for the UAE’s commercial space industry.

Altair-1 is the first of a planned 10-satellite AI-enabled Earth observation constellation. The satellite was built at Orbitworks’ facility in Abu Dhabi’s KEZAD and launched aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-18 rideshare mission.

The company’s Abu Dhabi facility has the capacity to produce up to 50 satellites per year at full scale. The constellation is designed to provide Earth-observation data with AI capabilities that can help customers analyse information directly from orbit.

Why it matters: The launch moves the UAE further toward becoming a commercial space manufacturing and AI hub, rather than relying primarily on purchasing space technology from abroad.
