Major electricity infrastructure planned for the 6-million-square-metre Expo site

Saudi Energy and Expo 2030 Riyadh have signed an agreement covering electricity supply and infrastructure for the future World Expo site in Riyadh. The agreement represents another major step in preparing the site for the international event.

The planned infrastructure includes a main supply substation, three primary substations, transmission networks and distribution networks. Several Saudi companies will participate in construction and grid connection work.

The Expo site covers approximately 6 million square metres and is expected to welcome visitors from around the world when Expo 2030 Riyadh opens.

According to the announcement, the infrastructure will also allow electricity supplies to be secured ahead of the event so that testing and trial operations can take place before the Expo begins.

The project demonstrates the scale of infrastructure investment taking place in Riyadh as Saudi Arabia continues developing major projects under Vision 2030.

Expo 2030 Riyadh is scheduled to run from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031, with participation expected from 197 countries and an estimated 42 million visits.

Beyond the event itself, the development is expected to create opportunities for construction companies, infrastructure providers, technology firms, hospitality businesses, transport operators and other service providers.
