India Uses BRICS Presidency to Deepen Gulf Economic Ties

Investment, technology and clean energy emerge as key areas

India’s 2026 BRICS presidency is creating a new platform for strengthening economic relationships with the UAE and Saudi Arabia, particularly in investment, technology, energy and trade.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are part of the expanded BRICS grouping, giving the bloc greater influence across global energy and financial markets.

India and the GCC also formally launched negotiations for a GCC–India free-trade agreement, covering Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Beyond traditional oil and gas trade, cooperation is expanding into renewable energy, green hydrogen, battery storage, digital commerce, AI, fintech, healthcare, cybersecurity and smart cities.

For UAE and Saudi businesses, this could create additional opportunities for investment and cross-border partnerships with one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.
