Saudi Arabia and AWS Set December Launch for First Cloud Infrastructure Region

AWS expands Saudi cloud and AI infrastructure

Amazon Web Services has announced that its first AWS Cloud Infrastructure Region in Saudi Arabia is on track to launch in December 2026.

The announcement came during LEAP 2026 in Riyadh and represents a major development for Saudi Arabia’s digital economy. AWS is also working with HUMAIN, the Saudi AI company backed by the Public Investment Fund, to make up to 50 MW of capacity available for Saudi Arabia’s first AI Zone by 2028.

The new infrastructure is expected to give businesses, government entities and technology companies greater access to cloud services within Saudi Arabia. Local data infrastructure can also support organisations that require data residency and lower-latency computing.

The development is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to build a domestic technology ecosystem and attract international AI and cloud investment.

For startups and enterprises, the expansion could create opportunities in cloud migration, cybersecurity, AI development, software, data management and digital transformation.
