Saudi Arabia and UAE Use Alternative Export Routes
Despite continued disruption around the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf crude shipments have reportedly returned to approximately pre-war levels.
Kpler data shows that around 16.5 million barrels per day of crude left the Gulf region, excluding Iran, between September 1 and 28 — matching the pre-war average.
A major reason has been the increased use of alternative routes. Saudi Arabia has increased crude flows through its East-West pipeline to Yanbu, while the UAE has increased shipments through its Abu Dhabi crude oil pipeline to Fujairah, reducing dependence on tanker movements through Hormuz.
Why it matters: The shift demonstrates how Gulf producers are adapting their logistics infrastructure to protect energy exports during periods of maritime disruption.
