Corporate earnings create pressure on Dubai equities
Dubai’s stock market came under pressure on 14 August, with the main index falling 0.4% for a second consecutive session.
Weak corporate earnings and continuing geopolitical uncertainty contributed to the decline.
Air Arabia fell 4.1% after reporting a 75% year-on-year decline in second-quarter net profit to AED 87.9 million.
Construction company ALEC Holding also dropped 4.4% after reporting a quarterly loss of AED 16.3 million, compared with a profit in the corresponding period a year earlier.
Emaar Properties also edged lower.
Abu Dhabi’s market, meanwhile, was comparatively stable, with the index gaining 0.02%. Orascom Construction rose after reporting a 74% increase in profit to $61.9 million, while technology company Space42 also supported the index.
The contrasting results highlight the importance of company-specific earnings alongside broader geopolitical factors when assessing Gulf equity markets.
For investors, the latest trading session demonstrates that Dubai’s market remains sensitive to both corporate performance and regional economic uncertainty.
